Mike Cummings, CPP, is a healthcare security leader. He spent over 30 years with Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin ascending to the role of Senior Vice President of Security and Loss Prevention before starting his own consulting firm, Cummings Security Consulting. He strives to help organizations assess and develop stronger security programs.

Mike Cummings Biography

Mike Cummings has been in the field of security since 1973. He spent the first 12 years of his career in the retail sector. He has been a security practitioner in health care since 1985. Most recently, he served as the Senior Vice President of Security and Loss Prevention for Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He held a leadership role between 1987-2017. In 2017, he opened his security consulting firm, Cummings Security Consulting, LLC.

Mike has been a member of ASIS International since 1978 serving many years in various capacities, both on the local Board in Milwaukee, WI and on a national/international level. He served as a member of the Standing Committee For Health Care Security from 1989-1999 and chaired the committee in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2000 and was similarly re-appointed in 2001 and 2002. He was elected to the Board of Directors in January 2003 and served on the Board through 2010 in the role of President in 2009 and as its Chairman of the Board in 2010.

Mike is also a Senior Member of the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS). Mike currently serves on the IAHSS Guidelines Council. He holds a BA from Marquette University and a MA in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University. He received CPP (Certified Protection Professional) designation in 1986 and has re-certified for this designation every three years since then.   

He has served on several Boards including the Southeast Wisconsin Homeland Security Partnership, Inc (SWHSP), the Editorial Advisory Board for Corporate Security and the Board for the Avenues West Association, which included responsibility for the safety and security functions. He currently serves on the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee for the Waukesha County Technical College Criminal Justice Program as well as in the role of adjunct instructor.

Mike has lectured on a variety of security topics over the years at the local and national level. He has published in Security Management, The Journal of Healthcare Protection Management and the Security Business Practice Reference and has been a contributing author to Security Management, 2nd Edition (2010) published by the National Safety Council.
